I must admit that I’ve never really thought about coconut oil for skin care.

I remember when seeing it in the shops I thought that doesn’t look very healthy. Well, how wrong could I be? Coconut oil can be used as a sunscreen, natural makeup remover and a moisturizer.

I read about one woman who is a cancer survivor and she also uses coconut on her hair and teeth, for deodorant, for cooking and of course as a special ingredient in her fruit and vegetable smoothies.

So bring this taste of paradise home to yourself and enjoy the benefits.

As a sunscreen: In tropical climates the locals use coconut oil as sunscreen. It’s probably one of the main reasons people in tropical climates spend so much time in the sun but not suffer from skin cancer. Coconut oil is rich with antioxidant properties that protect the skin from free radical damage. Also, when coconut oil is consumed and used topically on our skin, it helps our bodies absorb other nutrients more effectively as well, such as Vitamin E, another powerful antioxidant nutrient that protects the skin. Can you imagine using a commercially available sunscreen like this: rubbing some on then having a drink of it! Interesting with coconut oil as a sunscreen is that you need to watch what you are eating for it to work (here comes another health benefit). It seems that the oils you put into your body are just as important as what you onto your body in regards to sun protection. So for example if a person eats foods loaded with polyunsaturated oils, generally they will burn more in the sun.

In spite of the popular believes, coconut oil has many health benefits. Our heart, skin and brain, all need the essential fatty acids that are abundant in virgin coconut oil. Just add some other nuts, fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet, use coconut oil for natural skin care and you’re on your way to a heathy body and a beautiful young looking skin.
